A Heart for Worship

Day 3: Undignified & Unashamed

Scripture

“David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the Lord with all his might… Michal… saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, and she despised him in her heart.”
-2 Samuel 6:14,16 (NIV)

Devotional

I will never forget the moment my daughter started breathing again on the side of that highway.
One second, she was gone.
Lifeless. Still.
And in the next-God answered.
Breath returned.
Miracle met pavement.
And I dropped to my knees.
Right there in front of first responders, traffic, headlights, and chaos-I praised.
I didn’t care how it looked.
Didn’t care who was watching.
Didn’t care if they thought it was weird or dramatic.
Because my baby was breathing.
And I knew exactly who had brought her back to me.

Reflection

We talk about authentic worship-
And yes, it looks different for everyone.
But sometimes we forget to ask the deeper question:

Are we cheering louder for a football team than the King of Glory?
Do we jump higher for a winning goal than we do when grace finds us again?

David danced before the Lord-undignified and unashamed.
He was a king. A warrior. A leader.
But in that moment, he was just a worshiper.
He didn’t care how it looked.
He knew Who deserved it.

Takeaway

Worship is about being real.
But don’t let comfort become an excuse for complacency.
If your love for Jesus is real-let it show.
Even if it’s messy. Loud. Undignified.

Prayer

God,
Let me worship You without fear of judgment.
Let my gratitude be greater than my pride.
When You move, let my praise rise to meet You—raw, real, unashamed.
Break off any fear that keeps my heart from pouring out.
You are worthy of every shout, every tear, every dance, every whisper.
Amen.

Journaling Prompts

  • When was the last time you worshiped God with abandon?
  • What holds you back from expressing worship freely and fully?
  • What would it look like to worship without worrying about how others see you?
